The advanced slideshow settings are for setting the number of passes, effects, text labels, and shape labels. Clicking on the different set buttons enables you to set the special effects, text effects, shape effects and so on. Simply click the different set buttons, click on the effects and settings you want to check out and click preview. It is much more fun for you to experiment with the different effects and settings than reading about them.  Since the effects and settings are for the slideshow only and will not change the original image(s) experimenting is completely safe.
